TWIRLS: Treating Waste for Restoring Land Sustainability

Restoration Activities - Mine Sites

Part of the Parnitha National Park near Athens is mined for black schist which is used in cement-making. The project site is waterlogged and compacted and shows little sign of natural revegetation. The worked-out area will undergo regrading and receive a soil-forming material before it is ready to be planted with species typically found in the Park, notably Pinus halepensis.
